About the Congress

The High Speed Machining Congress brings together the research community and the manufacturing industry around one question: how far can we push cutting speed, precision and process reliability, and what does it take to get there. Since its first edition, the congress has been a meeting point where academic results and shop-floor reality are put side by side.

The 19th edition takes place in Donostia - San Sebastián, in the heart of a Basque industrial region with a long tradition in machine tool manufacturing, cutting tools and precision engineering, at the Kursaal Convention Center.

Over two days, participants present peer-reviewed research, discuss industrial case studies, and see the latest developments from machine tool builders and tooling manufacturers. The programme combines keynote lectures, technical sessions and time set aside for the conversations that tend to matter most.

Who Should Attend

The congress is built for people who work on machining problems, whether in a laboratory or on a production line:

  • Researchers and doctoral students in manufacturing, materials and mechanical engineering.
  • Process and production engineers responsible for machining operations.
  • Machine tool builders, spindle and control system developers.
  • Cutting tool and tooling manufacturers.
  • Technology centres and applied research institutes.

Main Topics

Abstracts are invited across the full breadth of high speed and precision machining.

Cutting tools, cutting processes, abrasive processes, cutting conditions and their optimization

Cutting process simulation and virtual machining, digital twin for cutting processes

Sustainable machining

Machining strategies for high productivity

Machining of difficult-to-cut materials

Machinability of materials after additive / casting / forming processes

The City

Donostia - San Sebastián sits on a shell-shaped bay on the Basque coast, an hour from Bilbao and twenty minutes from the French Corniche. It is compact enough to cross on foot, and it has never seen the point of rushing a meal.

Food & Evenings

San Sebastián has one of the highest concentrations of Michelin stars per inhabitant anywhere, but the everyday institution is the pintxo: small plates, eaten standing, one bar at a time. It is also, conveniently, where most of the useful conversations at a congress actually happen.
